Best Deals so far this year

Due to awesome friends and family, there has been 3 memorable “freebies” this year that has brought me much joy haha.

1) Autoshow 2010. Thanks goes to Daniel for getting us into the show free of charge because his uncle worked there. It was another fantastic day of taking pictures of cars and test driving Mercedes-Benz.

2) Toy Story 3. Thanks goes to Katrina who was part of my softball team this summer. She works at the Silver City at Fairview mall and got us in free of charge with some free coupons that she had I believe. Jess and I had a great night watching the last instalment of one of the greatest trilogies ever while saving around $26 on a friday night. yayah!

3) Toronto Zoo. Thanks goes to my sister haha. Since she works at the zoo (has been for the last 4-5 years) she got me in for free since employees can bring one guest in for free whenever they work. Since she also works at the Africa Restaurant I also got lunch half off! This trip also saved me $20+ which I’m very grateful for. Because I saved so much, I splurged $3.50 and went to see sting rays at sting ray bay. Pictures can be found on facebook in my random photo album.

That is all. I just wanted to remember the three free things I’ve had so far. =)

Experiences

I wanted to post something here for quite a while now, just haven’t found the time to. NOW I HAVE! kinda.

So I’ve been doing a bit of volunteering this summer thus far and it’s been a great learning experience. At the moment, I’ve volunteered at East Rehabilitation Center by Kennedy and Finch, Friendly Rehab Clinic by Warden and Finch, and helped out to coach my church’s senior softball team.

East Rehabilitation Center (ERC) & Friendly Rehab Clinic (FRC)

So, I’ve mostly been watching the kinesiologist at ERC help out patients do their exercises and stretches. I really don’t have much to do there, I mostly learn the different exercises and help out once in a while when there’s more than 1 client in the room. ERC has a much larger exercise facility than FRC.

I don’t learn too much from FRC, but it’s been the place where I’ve been applying the lessons learned at ERC. I only started at FRC last week, but I’m already noticing some subtle differences. FRC has a much smaller exercise facility. I am the one in charge of giving out the exercises, so i basically take some exercises from ERC and implement them at FRC haha =P (are the letters confusing?). Because I’m in charge of the room, I can also have more personal time and when i get bored I can head out to the front desk and be with some company haha. Today, the physiotherapist was streaming the world cup while waiting for clients to come so I watched part of the Brazil vs. North Korea match with him.

Lessons learned from both places combined:

1) Client interaction. Most of the clients are from car-crashes. Most clients are also unable to speak English well. So, I’ve been learning to adjust my communication so the clients can understand me better. A lot of them also don’t want to do the exercises so you’ve got to push them to do just a bit more than they want to. The people who don’t want to do exercises are usually those in a lot of pain or really no pain at all (with exceptions). It’s those with moderate amount of pain that do the exercises seriously because they want that annoying pain to go away.

2) Time. It takes time for clients to heal and see the effects of treatment. Some clients have been to the clinic for a year and a half if not more and haven’t been released of their pain yet. It’s encouraging to hear stories of the clients themselves saying stuff like “You think i’m bad now? You should’ve seen me a few months ago! I couldn’t even move!”. They can see their own progress and it makes me happy because I believe it gives them more motivation to come in and do their exercises and actually take them seriously.

Probably got more to list, but I can’t remember them at the moment. Just a lot of insurance stuff that clients have to deal with. The more talkative patients are always fun to listen to. I love the older clients much more than the younger ones because they do their exercises and they also have a lot of experiences to share. Younger clients breeze right through all the exercises because all they want to do is go and it’s really hard to get them to do the exercises well. Finishing the exercises does not mean they did them well.

Softball

It’s been a challenging, but eye-opening experience to be a coach of a softball team from my church. It’s my first time playing in the league so I had a lot to learn. Being very inexperienced, I’m quite thankful for those who help me out – especially my co-coach. Because my co-coach is more experienced than I am, he does a bit more than I do. The only few things I’m able to do is run drills and do a bit of admin work.

Leading-wise, I’ve learned that experience really does pay off. It makes thinking of drills, creating line-ups, and coaching overall just a much easier task to do. I’m still just learning what to do and not to do for the positions that i play. I am thankful though, as I have gained an obscene amount of interest in softball now and how the game is played, the mechanics of throwing, catching, and batting… unfortunately I need it all to go to muscle memory haha.

A post once in a while

Haven’t posted in a while…

Playing softball this summer as a coach for my church’s team. Finished an ump test today which, if i pass, allows me to be and umpire in other games. I took it not really to be an umpire, but as a coach it’s useful to be carded as an umpire as it gives you some credibility.

Shopped around at fairview looking for a shirt. Took me 2 hours… daaaang it was tiring haha… and stressful =S

How is everybody else doing? Am i the only one here…?

Things to Do:

Read a Single subject design article for Research Design. List the strengths and limitations of the study and then explain how confident I am in the conclusion the author makes. Due Wednesday.

Read an article pertaining to food and water resources for Environmental Biology. This is a bit more simple. Find one that i like and send the article to the T.A. to make sure no one else is using the article in my class. Due anytime this week.
After, make a power point presentation on the article. Due March 30th.

Read articles related to kinematic analysis of rowing with a rowing ergometer. Recollect all the data and analyze. Write lab report. Due next monday.

Lost Data

So… can’t find my USB key that held my lab data. This adds on quite a bit of work as I have to get all my data again which i spent all of last lab doing >.<

Guess it’s my fault as I was the one who misplaced it… and also was dumb enough not to back it up by putting the file on my laptop as well.

LETS DO THIS!! BAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

Dear Immunology

How I hate you.. with a passion.

Midterm coming.. my worst mark/subject right now in 3rd year..
I missed almost all the lecture due to a conflict/lab in the afternoon..
Listening to the lectures now.. but struggling through them
I guess this is why I ain't no immunology specialist and
should stay within genetics for my own sake.

14 hours of lecture to go... start the count down.. it will be a long week
Life = Busy lately.. Will update soon
I hope? (and with something more interesting)

Peace (2s)

Random rant

a rant about environmental biology…

this has been the first class where I’m actually being marked on participation. We’re marked out of 10 each tutorial class. Attending the class will only get us 2/10. So if we attend and do nothing, we still fail somehow… stupid. In order to get a 50% for the tutorial class, we have to make an original comment/question. Depending on how many of these comments we make, we can get anywhere from 5-10/10. With 20 or so people in the class, how is it possible that anyone can get 10/10?? dumb!!! ugh!!!

The readings are so long!! I just find this class very self-absorbed haha. It thinks it’s the only course in the whole campus. Class is actually 50 minutes, leaving 10 minutes for people to get from that class to the next and if you’re like me who has to get close to the other side of campus AND change for judo, we are most definitely going to be late. I find ending class that late actually disrespectful. People do leave at the 45 minute mark, but if i leave I know i’m gonna miss some information >.< people have other classes to go to! Seriously!!!

Just the amount of participation we have to do even out of class! in the discussion boards, we are marked on the comments we make and what new topics we post up there. AHHHHHHHHH!!!

Don’t get me wrong, it’s an interesting class and raises a lot of awareness on what’s happening around the world and to this world that we live in. The work is just ridiculous. Sucks! blah!

New Laptop!

Came back during the weekend and bought a new laptop!

HP Pavillion dv4 2154ca with 500 GB hard drive space and 4GB of RAM. All thanks to drakonen for going laptop shopping with me for the majority of saturday haha. $850 done rite there.

In other news, a month ago i also bought new in-ear headphones. sennheiser cx500’s… i think. don’t remember the exact model anymore. Originally $140, i bought it for half that price. SWEEET!

And of course I also bought an ipod touch which set me back $200ish. Daaaang I’m getting poor. major spending in 3rd year. No moreeee!!!

although I didn’t have to pay for my laptop… so meh… but still. Major expensive for 3rd year.

2010

NEW OPPORTUNITIES AWAITS
Happy 2010 to y'all!

Hugely excited to what's in store for us all, even tho I am not too keen on waking up tomorrow at 7am as oppose to 2pm the past 2 weeks, I am still all smiles (absolutely no idea why).

I think it's time for some sort of a reunion sooner or later, now that UU is working downtown on his coop term (yes I have to update you guys on his life.. wish he can just do it). We just need echoes to be back soon, then it will be fairly convenient to meet up for ANYTHING.

Remember that list we had in the summer? Oh man we totally FAILED, let's make it more epic the next time around by actually completing at least HALF of it, but this post isn't about reminiscing about the past year..

It's a new decade, time for new things. So guys... I think it's time to...

ready, set, go...

On a side note, music recommendation:
