This week was pretty fun. Day camp staffs bring in very interesting characters. This year may not be the same as last year, but it’s not a bad thing.
Thursday, we went to the executive director’s place in Whitby. It was a pretty ok drive… once you drive to london almost once a month… every other ride seems shorter. The place was HUUUUUGE. It was like a mansion. His yard was like the size of the park behind my house. Had burgers and hot dogs and time for reflection. Afterwards I got to drive ppl home in a car that didn’t belong to me =)! It was a very interesting experience. First time driving a friend’s car, first time driving in the express lane, first time having the tires squeal, and first time seeing a fox out on the streets.
Friday, I drove one of the staff back to his own church and I witnessed my first car accident! It was amazing!!! (not for the ppl involved… but for me). A car was about to make a right turn but stopped. The driver behind him was going too fast so he couldn’t stop and tried to swerve out of the way, but failed so the corner of both cars were hit. It was definitely an experience.
Apart from all the firsts, I went to a funeral today. It’s strange to dress formally for a wedding a few weeks before… and then dress up again a few weeks later except for a funeral. Both were a celebration of life in a way whether it be a joining of two lives… or a departure of one. The one who passed on was a sunday school teacher for me at church and I also know her kids. I think they went to Buchan as well… though a few years after us. She had been diagnosed with lung cancer I believe and it was a long hard battle. It was weird coz I actually got choked up and teary eyed for this one… and I blame it on the speech. Maybe it’s because all the other funerals were spoken more in cantonese so I often zoned out, but the father/husband shared in english and so did the kids so I understood everything and actually paid attention. That’s all I’ll say for now.
It was a fun-filled week. Look forward to the rest of my summer.
