So Thursday afterschool we left for volleyball ofsaa which was held in mississuaga.
we drove in a yellow school bus through a snow storm, and arrived around 5 to the hotel... along the way coming up with a song because we were told by our coach that we needed a team song, wont write it out but it used the hodown song from whos line is it anyways... we got to the hotel hotel which was surprisingly nice even though the school was paying for it... we had rooms with 4 people and the room was still huge... half an hour to unpack then we left for the school rick hansen in our *semi-casual country outfirst (or at least thats what our coach told us)... wow was that a sad mistake, when we got there, we saw alot of tall guys in suits, all of them.. we had to be the most under dressed team by far... and our captain grahme the tall scary white guy was wearing a green shirt which supposedly he paid $3 for it, jeans or something and white running shoes... and what was more was he had to go up to pick up our banner, so the banquet was held in the cafeteria, school was still very nice so it was fine, but tables were all crammed together... so we sit watching volleyball matches from the last olympics... the volleyballs curved so much, and they could still pass perfectly... this lasted for about an hour during which everyone got mad because we had to wait... then finally we get to eat, food was good, salad had too much of a *from the box taste to it though... then we sat waiting for about another 2 hours after we finished the meal, another table was floating pop cans because there were helium balloons all over the place tied down to weights, they actually got it floating, but took enough off so that it would just float, so it got passed around, then some speeches and finally we got to go back to the hotel... back at the hotel there was a hot tub and a weight room, used it for a bit, watched family guy and south park on the tv they had in the weight room before going up... then ahem, went out for macdonalds in someones car in the middle of the night and got yelled at for that, still stayed up though and watched somemore tv in the room... 12:00ish
waking up at 7:00 from the alarm, the coach, the hotel... i think we needed just one, after that it just got annoying... buffet breakfast at the hotel, not bad at all... then busing to one of four schools were the games were being held... someone brought a speaker and half the people had an ipod so there was music almost all the time, even brought it to the locker rooms... first school was a catholic school (which was such a nice school) and we watched a game between two teams in the same pool as us, 5 teams and we were the 3rd seed in it... 11th out of 20 in the tournament... so the first game was cool, there were at least 10 volunteers, 2 refs, 3 volleyballs... there were people cleaning the volleyballs after every point with wash towels and passing it across the sides of the courts... then we went across the street to another public school to play our first game (this school was also nice... it'll become a pattern so all the schools were so nice there...) lost the first game to second seeded team, funny how our setter got injured for the second time this year, first was jumping up when our hitter was coming down and somehow he bit the setter in the head and he started bleeding... this time it was a shoulder to the nose and he started bleeding during the first set, so inorder for us to go into championship round we had to win all the next three games... went to lunch subways/macdonalds, ate and had a game in two hours, won that game against last seed of our pool... this was already pretty amazing, the last two times two and three years ago that the senior team went to ofsaa they hadnt won a game at all... so 6:00 at rick hansen *they had a sport court which was sooo cool, it was these rubber tiles that they laid down across the whole gym with the markings of only the volleyball court, and get this a *a mascot and a dance pack... this was the biggest game as it was against the first in our pool and 3rd ranked overall team in the tournament, dont know how it happened but we played the best we had played all year and we won... and because of how the round robin went even though they had won all their games except one, if we won the next game they would'nt make it into the championship round...
that night was a party, ordered pizza, more hot tub, and also got ofsaa clothing that we had ordered, watched some of the hockey game, then went to sleep as we had a 6:00 wake up the next day... so we wake up and go to the game that we need to win in order to get into the championship round, the team that lost to us was also there watching and hoping that we would lose... but no we won, so here we were 3-1 in ofsaa, only 8 teams had won 3 or more games. but since we were second we had to face the first place team from another group who was 4-0 in the quarterfinals and they were good, they had two liberos and another possible full team on the bench... but even if we did win this game, in the semis we would have to face the two time defending champions who had won every single set so far in ofsaa and all of the tournaments they had played this year, who had a power hitter who was the starting power for team canada. anyways so we lost in the quarters making us tied for 5th, as every other team who lost in the quarters would say since we didn't play again for the official ranking... so that was my ofsaa experience...
Edit: the team that we lost to in the city finals didn't win a set at all and were sent home after the four games
